# remove_project_member

> Remove someone's access to a project.

Removes a person's access to a project. They lose it immediately, in the web app and through any AI assistant they've connected.

To give access back, call [`share_project`](/mcp/tools/share-project) again.

## Parameters

  Project id from `list_projects`. You need write access.

<ParamField body="email" type="string" required>
  Email address of a person in `members` from [`list_project_members`](/mcp/tools/list-project-members). Matching ignores case.

## Result

  The email address you passed.

## Errors

| Code | When |
| - | - |
| `ACCESS_DENIED` | You don't have write access, or the connection is read-only |
| `VALIDATION` | See the messages below |

| Message | Cause |
| - | - |
| `Member not found` | The person has no access to this project |
| `Cannot remove the project creator` | You passed the creator's email address |
| `Cannot remove the last writer` | They are the only person with write access |
| `Invalid email address` | `email` isn't an email address |

<Note>
  Workspace owners and admins keep write access to every project in their workspace, so this tool doesn't affect them. Their role can only be changed in the web app.
